Under the Title III of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, all local educational agencies (LEAs) in California are required to submit an annual count of eligible immigrant students. Eligible immigrant pupils are who (1) are enrolled in kindergarten through grade twelve (2) are foreign-born (born outside of the United States) (3) initially enrolled in any school in United States within the most recent three school years. The counts of eligible pupils are to be taken on the first Wednesday of October and/or March 1 of the school year.
On March 1, 2008, Vineland School District reported to the California Department of Education that there were a total of 59 immigrant students enrolled in our district. The majority of immigrant pupils were born in Mexico 55/59 (93%).
